Integrating ChatStack with AI Coding Tools

Optimize Your “Vibe Coding” Workflow with Structured PRDs and Persistent Context

The biggest challenge in AI-driven development is Context Drift. Without a structured plan, AI coding assistants (any MCP-capable IDE or chat host) eventually lose track of the project architecture, leading to technical debt and “spaghetti code”.

ChatStack solves this by providing a machine-readable “Single Source of Truth” that you can inject directly into your development environment. For an overview of what the ChatStack App Cost Estimator MCP does, see About ChatStack MCP. To run the interview inside ChatGPT without a config file, see ChatStack in ChatGPT.

For positioning beyond IDE setup, read how ChatStack compares to generic AI chat for software planning and a requirements-first workflow for vibe coding and AI IDEs.

1. How to Connect ChatStack via MCP

To generate an indicative development estimate and software requirements, connect your AI assistant to ChatStack’s App Cost Estimator MCP. No account or access token is required.

Endpoint: https://mcp.chatstack.app/mcp

Each host has its own settings screen or config file; the mcpServers shape is standard for Cursor, Claude Desktop, Claude Code, ChatGPT, Windsurf, OpenClaw, Gemini Spark, and similar clients. Some hosts take the same URL in a UI or as Streamable HTTP instead of a JSON file.

Connect to ChatStack App Cost Estimator MCP

  1. Open your MCP client’s settings or config file (or the host’s Streamable HTTP / remote MCP field).
  2. Paste the server block below and save.
  3. Reload MCP so a chatstack-app-cost-estimator server appears.
  4. Start a chat and describe the product you want estimated. Choose a mode when asked:
    • Review each step — walks you through stories, requirements, and tech specs before the estimate.
    • Run it for me — the assistant answers the gates, reports each decision (and tables), then hands you the estimate.
  5. When the estimate is ready, submit the PRD. You will be asked for your contact details so we can email a portal link.

    "chatstack-app-cost-estimator": {
      "url": "https://mcp.chatstack.app/mcp"
    }
  }
}

2. Creating the Execution Plan

A PRD tells the AI what to build; an Execution Plan tells it how to build it step-by-step.

ChatStack provides optimized prompt templates that transform your PRD into a “Master Execution Plan.” This prevents the AI from trying to build the whole app at once—which usually fails—and instead guides it through a logical, modular build order (Database → Auth → API → Frontend).

After you submit a PRD, generate it from the ChatStack portal: lock the version, then open Build → Generate Prompt. It uses your stories, requirements, and tech specs. You can use the generated prompt with the PRD from the portal in your AI coding tool.

3. Using the PRD without MCP

If your tool does not support MCP, export the PRD from the portal and give it to the assistant as a file:

  1. Download a structured JSON or CSV file from the portal.
  2. Drop it into your project’s root directory.
  3. Tell the model to use it, for example: “Always refer to @prd.json for technical specifications and architecture logic.”

The portal can also export Markdown, Excel, PDF, Google Docs, Google Sheets, and Notion for reading or sharing — those are human exports, not a substitute for MCP.

4. Expert Guidance & Workshops

Setting up an “Agentic Workflow” can be complex. Our team offers specialized consulting and workshops to help your developers:

  • Custom project rules: We help you write persistent rules for your stack and industry (e.g., HIPAA compliance for HealthTech), installed where your agent host expects them (for example .cursorrules in Cursor). Typical topics include:
    • Observability — logging, error handling, and performance monitoring.
    • Security-first coding — constraints that reduce common vulnerabilities (e.g. SQL injection, weak auth).
    • Testing — unit and integration tests for new features.
    • Architecture guardrails — stay on the chosen stack (e.g. Flutter, React, Next.js, Supabase).
  • Build prompt audits: We join your team to map the most efficient build sequence from your ChatStack estimate and Build prompt.
  • Jira/DevOps Integration: We show you how to sync your structured PRD with your existing project management tools.
